Why Start Your Own Brand?

People have asked me (maybe not quite so bluntly), why start your own brand? Don’t you know that 50% of businesses fail within the first five years? Why take the risk? Why not just go work as a designer, or design clothes for people on the side?

It’s a matter of impact.

If I work for someone, I am their employee, I exchange my time for money. And the number of people I can impact is minimal.

But as I grow this billion-dollar international brand, I have the chance to impact SO MANY PEOPLE’s LIVES by the choices I make as a business owner.

I get to choose:

where I source my fabric,

where/how my clothes are made,

to empower others to live their best lives through socially and environmentally responsible practices,

to empower customers to do more of what they love

and be enthusiastically present wherever their day takes them,

to empower employees and subcontractors to become their best selves, and

to share the inspirational stories of the women who are the namesake of each style.

THAT is what I get to do with a business.

And I thank you for coming along side me in this journey, in the excitement, and in the waiting.

Thank you.
