5 Reasons to Shop at Thrift Stores

Now you may think this is a strange email coming from an up-and-coming clothing brand, but hear me out.

There are SO MANY CLOTHES in the world already that you don’t HAVE to buy new, and here’s why!

1)     Items at thrift stores have typically already been washed once (if not many) times. So there’s no risk of shrinkage.

2)     You get to see the true quality of the clothing, meaning that you can easily weed out the items that are pilled or stretched weird.

3)     Unique styles! You don’t know if the clothes you’re picking are from last season or 30 seasons ago, so you can simply choose the styles that look best on YOUR BODY without being limited by the styles being offered that season. (One of my favorite clothing pieces is a pair of mens rust orange polyester pants that look like they’re from the 70s, and I get SO many compliments on them!)

4)     Lower cost. Most items at thrift stores are priced much lower than you would find them at retail stores. Plus, you have already weeded out the clothes that are going to fall apart in 2 seconds, so you’re more likely to get your money’s worth.

5)     You are changing the demand. Getting clothes at thrift stores rather than simply buying new off the rack (which, depending on the brand, are often made in sweat shops by underpaid workers) extends the life cycle of that garment and lowers the demand for ‘fast fashion’.
